Each saree leaves the loom with a card naming the weaver, the cluster and the weeks it took. We keep that card with the saree until it reaches you.
About Tantu
A saree house built around the people who weave, and the families who wear their work for a lifetime.

Our story
Tantu works directly with weaving families in Kanchipuram, Varanasi and Paithan. We buy finished sarees at the loom and pay for the weeks they take, so a saree is never rushed to meet a season.
Every piece travels with a card that names its weaver and cluster. We keep that card with the saree until it reaches you, so the story stays attached to the cloth.
We started with one question: why should a six-yard silk lose the name of the hands that made it? Everything here, from how we choose to how we pack, follows from that.

Heavy mulberry silk with temple borders and contrast pallus, woven for weddings and handed down.
Banarasi brocades and katan silks with dense gold zari, tissue and organza for lighter days.
Bold peacock and lotus motifs on rich, saturated silk, finished with the classic Paithani pallu.
Craftsmanship
Zari borders are tested for silver and gold content before a saree is listed.
No power-loom pieces. Each saree is checked for the small irregularities that mark hand weaving.
Fall, pico and blouse stitching to your measurements, free on sarees above the stitching threshold.
Return or exchange within 7 days if unworn and unwashed, with tags and weaver card.
The weaver card
Every saree is packed in a handloom cotton pouch with its weaver card. It tells you who wove it, in which cluster, and how long it took on the loom.
Keep it with the saree. When you pass it on, the card goes too.
